JOB SUMMARY:

Applicant must possess California License as Registered Nurse, current AHA BLS certification, Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing and two years’ experience in ambulatory care, urgent care, or similar setting with specific experience with walk-in and phone triage; Telephone Triage Course will be provided. This position encompasses the role of Clinic & Call Center Support RN. As a member of the health care

team, the incumbent serves as a support specialist in the clinic and performing triage assessments either via telephone and/or in-person. Within the clinic, this RN will perform nursing duties according to the California RN scope of practice, for walk-in and scheduled ambulatory patients and during emergency situations. The RN will serve as secondary telephone triage for the RSBCIHI Call Center focusing on triage, documentation, scheduling, and disposition. This RN may also function as a Site Manager during the absence of the RN Charge Nurse. The incumbent in this position adheres to all applicable corporate policies and protocols. Must have or willing to obtain current CPR Certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross prior to orientation. Must be able to work with the Indian Community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Deliver competent, age-specific nursing care in an ambulatory, primary care setting, including performance of treatments/procedures, performance of

waived laboratory procedures, and participation in patient education activities.

 Respond promptly to each incoming call requiring intervention; If call warrants a triage, the caller’s stated symptoms will be assessed to determine the

appropriate level of care required to safely meet the patient’s medical needs. (Emergent, urgent, non-urgent or home care status)

 When appropriate, provide home care instructions using the approved, written guidelines and reference materials;

 Utilize all resources and guidelines at his/her disposal to effectively assess, prioritize, advise, schedule classes or physician appointments, or refer calls

when necessary to the appropriate medical facility, personnel or specialized community service;

 Refer patients to appropriate medical facilities or providers for care, utilizing approved guidelines as indicated by individual patient profiles;

 Thoroughly complete documentation utilizing the appropriate computer software in compliance with the approved policies and procedures;

 Respond to calls, emails, and patient portal inquiries from internal and external sources;

 Communicate scheduling matters with other staff and departments

 Ensure HIPAA compliance with managing of patient information and their electronic health record;

 Escalate issues to the appropriate supervisor for resolution, as deemed necessary; (Administrative matters to Call Center Manager and Clinical/ Medical

matters to Nursing Director;)

 Actively participate in new employee orientation, ongoing in-service programs, staff meetings, continuous quality improvement, and periodic

performance/protocol evaluations and development;

 Supervise subordinate nursing personnel to assure consistent performance in accordance with sound nursing practice and adherence to organizational

policies and procedures.

 Maintain effective and efficient patient flow through the clinic, with emphasis on reduced waiting time, timely accomplishment of health maintenance

activities and improved customer satisfaction.

 Maintain proficiency in the use of pertinent medical equipment.

 Exhibit a professional manner by communicating effectively with fellow employees, providers and patients/families while maintaining confidentiality

regarding patient and personnel issues.

 Participate in regulatory compliance activities clinic wide, including adherence to IHS, AAAHC, and corporate compliance requirements.

 As assigned by the Site Manager, prepare required reports, audits and other measures of clinic performance in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain

required tracking systems accurately, and attend required meetings.

 Perform as liaison between clinic and community outreach functions to ensure quality and continuity of care.

 Contribute to an efficient and effective patient flow during daily operation by:

 Preparing patients and equipment/supplies for various procedures.

 Maintaining current knowledge of front desk procedures to expedite scheduling of patients and completion of appropriate paperwork.

 Participating in visit planning activities to improve health maintenance compliance and customer satisfaction.

 Managing organizational priorities/administrative needs in the absence of the site manager.

 Participate in effective and efficient use of resources by monitoring supply and material inventories and following proper procedure to record and

restock as directed by the Site Manager.

 Assist in maintaining accurate tracking logs and systems for patient care and health maintenance issues.

 Attend required meetings and training sessions and participate in organizational performance improvement activities.

 Refer to the Nursing Procedural Manual, Program Administration Manual, and other established guidelines and protocols as necessary to comply with

this organization’s standards of performance.

 Participate in clinic related health events in the communities served by the corporation.

 Other duties as assigned by the RN Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing, or Call Center Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

Education:

Current active California license as Registered Nurse.

Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.

Preferred: Telephone Triage Course completion


Experience:

Two years experience in ambulatory care, urgent care, or similar setting with specific experience with walk-in and phone triage.

Skills

Experience with computerized medical management system desirable.

License

Current CPR Certification that meets the guidelines from the American Heart Association or Red Cross (Can be obtained prior to orientation)

Ability To

Work a variable schedule to meet the patient, population, and Program needs.

Must be able to work with the Indian Community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.

Physical Demands

Prolonged use of phone and computer (typing). There is frequent exposure to contagious diseases. Walking and standing are frequent for long periods of time. Some sitting and lifting are required. The incumbent will be required to assist patients who are frail or handicapped. Driving will be required between clinics. This position is considered a uniformed service and a dress code is published.
