Scholarship Programs

Purpose

The RSBCIHI scholarship is designed to support Native American students by supplementing their income to cover educational expenses. Our Board of Directors is committed to aiding passionate and energetic students who aspire to give back to their Native communities through their education. The fields of potential future employment at RSBCIHI include health and medicine, behavioral health sciences, information technology, accounting, business management, lab technicians, among other vocational areas.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the RSBCIHI Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria

Tribal Membership

Applicant must be an American Indian, verified either by:

  • Inclusion on a federal or state recognized tribal roll, identified by a tribal enrollment card.
  • Membership or descendant of one of our consortium tribes, or possession of an official letter from a Federal or State recognized tribe or agency stating tribal membership or Indian blood.
  • Must reside within our service areas of Riverside-San Bernardino County.
  • Must be an active patient of RSBCIHI.

Educational Institution

Applicant must be a resident of Riverside-San Bernardino County attending an accredited institution of higher learning within the United States, or any tribal member attending such an institution irrespective of their residential location.

Study Status

Recognized as a full-time degree candidate at an accredited institution of higher learning, which includes 4-year universities, graduate schools, junior colleges, or trade/vocational schools.

Application Procedure

To apply for the RSBCIHI Scholarship, please follow the outlined steps:

  • Complete the Application Form: Ensure the application is filled out in its entirety. Incomplete applications will be automatically disqualified.
  • Documentation of American Indian Ethnicity: As described in the eligibility criteria.
  • Proof of Admission: Provide evidence of admission to an accredited educational institution.
  • Official Transcripts: Include your latest official transcripts; high school transcripts are required if the student has not attended college yet.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Submit two letters of recommendation from a tribal government council member or a current school representative (e.g., teacher, counselor, principal).
  • Educational Commitment Essay: Describe your chosen field of study, educational goals, career goals, involvement in the Indian community, and how this scholarship will assist your educational pursuits.

Additional Information

Scholarship Award Limitations:

  • If awarded, recipients cannot reapply in subsequent years.
  • Unsuccessful applicants may reapply in future cycles.
