Preparing for Your Visit

To make your lab visit as smooth as possible, please review the following preparation tips:

  • Verify Lab Orders: It’s a good idea to call the lab beforehand to confirm your lab order is on file. This is also an opportunity to check if fasting or any other preparation is needed.
  • Fasting Requirements: Some tests, such as glucose, require fasting, which means no food or drink except water for at least 8 hours before your test. If your test requires fasting, we recommend scheduling your visit in the morning.
  • Urine Sample Tests: If your test requires a urine sample, please arrive with a full bladder for faster processing.
  • Safety Protocols: To protect the health of our patients and staff, RSBCIHI has mask requirements and screening measures in place. Learn more about our safety protocols here.
  • What to expect when you arrive for lab testing: Please note you may experience a brief wait before your labs are drawn.
  • No Appointment Needed: Walk-ins are welcome. However, if you’re coming for a fasting lab, it’s best to arrive in the morning. Please remember to check in at medical first when walking in.
  • Notify Us of Special Needs: If you have a history of fainting during blood draws, please inform our phlebotomist, so we can ensure you have a comfortable experience.
